FDA Warning Letters Turn the Spotlight Toward the Front Page

The pharmacy may be out of view, but the marketing is not. In March, the FDA announced warning letters to 30 telehealth companies over what it described as false or misleading claims about compounded GLP-1 products on their websites. The agency identified claims implying that a compounded product was the same as an FDA-approved drug. It also objected to branding that could make a platform appear to be the compounder without making the actual sourcing clear.

These letters do not mean every compounded prescription is prohibited. They do signal that a clinic's public language is itself a regulatory surface. The FDA draws a distinction between compounded drugs, which it does not approve before marketing, and FDA-approved generics. A practice that blurs that distinction on a landing page may create a problem before anyone reaches the intake form.

For a small operator, the takeaway is editorial as much as legal: read the website the way a new patient would. What does the page actually say about the product, its status and who prepares it? The agency's announcement describes allegations in warning letters, not a final judgment on every company or a substitute for a review of current guidance.
